So it recently came to my attention that there’s this spiffy online toy called Live Portrait Maker, which is kind of like Bitmoji, except more limited and more painting-like. With a few mouse clicks you can design a nice-looking portrait with an array of hairstyles, expressions, skin colors, clothing, and other features.
Naturally I had to try it on my characters!
At first, I wanted to make a portrait of Axel because I haven’t been able to sketch him properly. But alas — the Portrait Maker only includes feminine features. So I made his sisters Liria and Viria instead:
They both appear only briefly in The Whitemaiden, so after finishing Liria I figured it would be better to move on to a main character.
(All of these images, by the way, are screencaps. The portraits are “alive” — that is, blinking and breathing — and you can’t download them.)
Alruna was the easiest to do. She has the most distinctive looks, and fortunately, the Portrait Maker allows two different eye colors. This still doesn’t quite look like her (and the clothing is all wrong), but it will help give you an idea:
And then I tried the main POV character, Catirna.
Also not very close. I couldn’t get her proper eye color or her face shape (which is a feature you can’t change at all), and when I put in her long black curls, it just looked completely wrong. So this is the closest I can get, with her hair up:
What fun, anyway!
Whose portrait would you make?
